ORGANIC, HYBRID, AND TRADITIONAL LAWN PROGRAMS

Plantscapes offers three types of lawn health care solutions. First, our lawn care technician will visit your property and assess current conditions. Our tech will look at existing grass species, weed problems, watering capabilities, drainage issues, and problem areas. Based on clients’ expectations we will make a recommendation for one our 3 programs. We offer organic, hybrid organic, and traditional programs. All three programs include the services listed below and the cost is based on the size of your property. Our techs have all be trained and certified by CT NOFA as organic land care professionals.

Services include

  • Fertilization
  • Seeding & Aeration
  • Weed Control
  • Insect & Disease prevention
  • Soil nutrition

What are the differences between each program?

Organic: Use of high-quality organic fertilizers. Focus is geared around heavily seeding your property multiple times per season and soil nutrition through the spraying of compost teas. Our goal initially is to introduce grass species such as tall fescue that are drought tolerant and can withstand a variety of conditions such as hot, wet, and shady. By using these grass types you’re able to have a resilient & durable lawn that can stand up to the rigors of heat stress, diseases, and lack of water without the reliance on the traditional treatments. Each program contains spring & fall seeding, organic fertilizer, compost teas, and organic lime. Weeds & insect issues are handled ad hoc and their options are discussed during initial consultation. Organic lawn programs will be more costly than hybrid or traditional. Organic programs while great for eliminating traditional treatments are highly susceptible to weed & insect issues. Organic lawns get better over time so being patient is key.

Hybrid: Hybrid organic lawn programs combine the “best of both worlds”. Each program contains the use of high-quality organic fertilizers as well traditional fertilizers applied at the lowest rate possible to contain & prevent most weed & insect issues. This program yields the best results with the least amount of chemicals possible. Hybrid programs include fertilization, spring & fall seeding w/ aeration, organic lime, weed control, compost teas, and insect prevention. Hybrid programs cost less than 100% organic programs while eliminating the insects & weeds and heavily reducing chemical usage. Weeds are controlled by “spot spraying” and targeting only existing patches. No property is ever “blanket” sprayed from corner to corner. Insect prevention is applied early so pests like white grubs, chinch bugs, ticks, and other insects don’t invade your green space. Similar to the organic program there is a heavy focus on the use of sustainable grass species and creating a lawn that is resilient & durable. Also, soil nutrition is incorporated into all hybrid programs. The cost of a hybrid programs fall somewhere between the organic & traditional.

Traditional: Traditional lawn programs yield optimal results at the lowest possible cost. While considered traditional there is still a focus put on giving our clients a safe green space so elements of the organic & the hybrid programs that can be incorporated will be. Lawns that are treated traditionally rarely have issues with weeds, insects, and diseases. If any issues arise they are quickly curable.
